The obvious changes observable in Earth’s climate can be directly connected to the past 150 years of industrialisation relying on fossil sources for energy and materials. The young researcher forum on sustainable biomass and climate change, SusBiC, is thought as an opportunity to bring together especially young researchers of all the different disciplines involved in this complex issue. In its first inaugural edition, it aims at presenting the current understanding and the current knowledge in a multidisciplinary context such as to create a common knowledge base across disciplines for enabling more interconnected approaches to solve the pressing problem. The workshop will consist in full introductory key lectures by renowned experts active in key areas of renewable biomass and climate change research. Younger researchers like junior professors and industrial researchers will then present innovative, ideally interdisciplinary solutions highlighting promising, real-world compatible exit strategies to the current impasse. . Presentations by young researchers, such as late stage PhDs and postdocs and will highlight very specific research aspects with focus on applied methods, etc., such as to achieve an interdisciplinary peer-to-peer knowledge transfer. Posters will be displayed during the entire workshop, building the base for continuous discussion and networking.
UNIVERSITY OF MILANO-BICOCCA, MILAN (ITALY)
All the activities will be held in accordance with the Covid-19 pandemic containment measures and requirements in force on the Italian territory. Pending the updated provisions regarding the social distancing and use of face-masks, it is expected that a vaccination document is required for participation in person (more detailed provisions will be provided in subsequent circulars considering the new regulatory updates). Non-EU participants must have health insurance for the entire duration of the course and must inquire about any restrictions on access to Italy.
Applicants are encouraged to submit together with their application an abstract for a poster presentation that describes their work. The scientific committee will additionally invite 24 selected candidates to present their research additionally in form of an oral presentation (15-20 minutes presentation + 5-10 minutes Q&A). The scientific committee will additionally evaluate all poster presentations and award a poster prize for the three best poster presentations.

Priority will be given to late stage PhD students and postdocs. Places are available in person on ‘first comes - first served’ basis. 15 fellowships for participation are available for PhD students from the University of Milano-Bicocca. In case of availability, participation will also be open to early career scientists.
